Not enough steam for my punk
I have about a week to come up with a short story for a steampunk anthology. I’ve been procrastinating but mostly due to the fact that I have no idea where to start. I’ve only known about the steampunk genre quite recently and I have no read enough of it to have a good idea where to start.
Most of the stories I’ve read are all set in the 1800s in England, in the Victorian era. Despite the amount of historical romances I’ve read, writing Victorian era speech is not easy and does not come naturally to me. So, trying to write a story in that kind of speech would be really hard. I’d even thought of setting the story in the the wild west of America but what I know of the place is what I’ve seen in the movies.
Then, it hit me…
Why don’t I set the story here? A story set in the early days of modern Singapore, way back when Sir Raffles was The Man. That would be interesting, wouldn’t it? This totally excited me and got my creative juices flowing. All I need to do now is to write it out.
